Over the past few weeks, I've been making some great progress and I though I'd share some of that progress with you via video.

For the past few months now, we the V.A.M academy have be discussing the idea of branching of and doing our personal projects. So far, we've had about two weeks to plan and produce bits and pieces of our projects. My personal project is a little comic called "A Way Around Life." This comic is meant to illustrate my thoughts and feelings towards certain topics and issues. Usually, these comics will be lighthearted fun and nothing too serious however, I do plan to make one or two comic strips that may be a little deep.
Throughout these first two weeks, my biggest challenge has been coming up with topics to talk about in the comic. As the weeks progress, this task seems more and more challenging. Fortunately, I have be able to combat this issue with the help of my fellow classmates and friends pitching in ideas of things I could talk about. I've also been reading a lot of comics on line to see how they format their comics and to get some inspiration for ideas. So far, I've completed three comic strips which have all been critiqued by both my classmates and teacher. I hope to make many more strips and to see how far I can go with this project. Last night, our school hosted an exhibition night to showcase all the students hard work over the past three months. I not only offered assistance in the preparations of the event, but I also walked around as though I was a spectator at a museum. Personally, I think it went alright. Not to much happened to me specifically, as all I did was show my mother around, talked to a few of my friends and sit down and paint. It really wasn't anything exciting although, I did have a moment of glee seeing my mother full of both joy and pride in my work. It really did make my day. As a whole however, it went absolutely fantastic. People left and right where left in aw at the stunning talents displayed by my fellow V.A.M classmates. It was mainly great to see how it really got people talking. And not just about art, but other topics as well. Seeing people connecting to people over the beauty of art.
During the time I spent setting up, I was rather quite enthusiastic to see a school packed full of parents and students idolizing the works of their children and peers. Though quite a number of people did come to the exhibition, it wasn't quite as packed as I thought it would be. But it was fun to finally see a handful of my peers parents for the first time. As the night dragged on, I was left with a feeling of neutral; Only wanting to continue with an acrylic paint assignment that we had just started a day or two ago. Eventually, I of course had to leave after a long night. Though it was a truely phenominal night On my last post, I described my V.A.M and personal goals and about two months later, I've come back to give you an update. So far, I would say that I've greatly exceeded my expectations for my V.A.M goal. I'm doing approximately two to three large art pieces a month and by doing so, I have seen rather rapid growth in my art work. This is a such a great boost in my art confidence as for a well or so, I had been a little frustrated in my art. I had gotten a little too comfortable with my art style at the time and everything seemed to be the same. But with a little push and perseverance, I was able to break through the struggle. I didn't change my art style rather, I expanded it. Creating more levels of my style for me to explore.
As for my personal goal, I will admit that could be doing a little better, but I have been trying for sure. I've been bringing better balanced lunches and have been slowly adding some greens and fruits into my diet. One thing I do hope to change, would be the content that I consume at home. For example; I would like to start eating break fast and try some healthy recipes for lunch and dinner. Though I still have a long way to go still on this journey of self and art betterment, I do recognized that there are things that I could be doing to make my goals a success. About a week ago, we were kindly invited to attend an academy get-together at the learning centre across the street. I had quite a wonderful experience there as I and many others got to meet quite a few guest speakers who touched on their experience in the professional art world. We also talked about leaving behind a good digital footprint. Toward the end of our stay, I was instructed to come up with two goals. One for my academy, and another, personal. So for my academy goal, I've decided to complete one large piece of art (by large I mean larger than a regular piece of paper) each month. I plan to work on it twice a week,(on the weekends) for an hour each day. I'm doing this to hopefully see how I will improve through out this school year. I also think it would be a nice way for me to branch out of my comfort zone and explore new things.
Next is my personal goal. Now, for some time, I've noticed that I don't really have the best eating habits and I would really like to start working on a much healthier life style any way I can. So as a goal, I've decided to eat one healthy meal, consisting of either vegetables, fruits or both, once a week, for two months. I will be accompanying this meal with a healthy drink(whether it be a vegetable or fruit smoothie ) once a week for two months as well. If I'm successful, then I will extend the time for the goal and maybe add to it. However, if I'm not successful, I will think of another way that I can start to practice good eating habits. Thank you for reading and have a good debbo day. |
